It starts with Lennier, and doesn't it always? It splits, and then it splits again, and today was no different... Except that the second time, it didn't come back.

After waiting for hours for information on the state of affairs, and a reasonable ETA, we've done what we should have a long time ago and moved services to another server. Albeit, with outdated services data from a few days ago. There are some differences, particularly in previously registered nicknames, but there's nothing we can do about that. Lennier is still down at the time of writing and we've had to negotiate for a backup from our host in the meantime.

Of course, being the vigilant network admin I am, I removed Lennier's DNS entry from the round-robin... While simultaneously forgetting the bug in our web host's control panel that causes any removal from the round robin to remove all servers from the list. This is the primary reason that many of you were unable to connect for a (possibly ongoing in some areas) duration. I've used external DNS lookup tools to ensure that the problem will resolve itself in time, but I can't empty your DNS cache for you. I would if I could, honest. ;)

As an aside, Crimson disappeared last night and hasn't been seen since. Apparently there's another hardware failure involved there. That's not a huge deal, but I think I'd have preferred that it didn't happen around the same time.

Interesting how the Win32 server just keeps on running while the others don't, though. It's almost like I had a point or something.

We actually ran a server from them, named Tonmatsu. I believe it's mentioned on the "About Us" page as holding the record for fastest delink. ;)

Tonmatsu was ran by Toast, a year or two back now. I don't remember exactly when, because it wasn't a huge event. :p

We didn't even get 24 hours of stability out of it. Granted, that's been the theme recently, but it's not something I buy into deliberately, and none of us could stand just how terrible that shell was. Perhaps things have changed, but it'd take a lot for me to consider one from them again.

In the meantime I've linked Lennier back in, but serving no clients. It's effectively gone back to test link status now that they've performed a hardware and (evidently from my perspective) software update. It looks like they've tweaked a few settings, too, some of them may be explicitly against what I'm paying for. We'll see.
